Creativity serves as a key connector between The Heinz Endowments’ three strategic funding areas – Creativity, Learning, and Sustainability – and plays an increasingly important role in fostering creative forces and voices in all aspects of the region’s vibrancy and well-being.
The Endowments’ commitment to creativity is part of their vision of Pittsburgh as a place where creative organizations and individuals thrive, are recognized, and contribute to the quality of life. This “Just Pittsburgh” is place where citizens of all ages, races, ethnicities and identities have opportunities to actively participate in a creative life; where communities and neighborhoods are distinctive, beautiful and desirable locations to live and visit; and where creativity is recognized as an important characteristic of the region and contributes to its economic well-being.
Endowments creativity programs include Advancing Black Arts, Just Arts, Public Realm, and Small Arts Initiative, as well as joint efforts with The Pittsburgh Foundation on the Investing in Professional Artists initiative and Carol R. Brown Awards for Creative Achievement. Creativity projects in the veteran/military realm, creative learning, and environmental realms are recent additions to the Endowments’ creativity portfolio.
