What is an Art Ally?
An ally is someone who supports you. Allies can take the role of a coach, consultant, advisor, mentor, guide, advocate, or scout. As an Art Ally, Jessica Jacobs uses her experience to help artists bridge the gap between art and business.
Why do you need an Art Ally?
There are many challenges facing artists. We often hear “do what you love”. However, artists often haven’t been taught business skills, and the marketplace does not always reward the artist. Understanding the business of art and taking an “art thinking” approach can demystify the obstacles to success.
How does Art Ally work for you?
Art Ally offers a range of services tailored to your individual needs, from simple guided questionnaires to workshops to in-depth one-on-one coaching. I utilize extensive resources and network of connections that I have built over the years. You can decide how much support you need.
What services does Art Ally offer?
Art Ally provides services that help artists define their focus. Who are you as an artist? Together, we develop your measurable goals, strategic plan, and target markets. Artists are often unaware of the possibilities–the range of business models and target markets they could be pursuing. Through frameworks, we will identify and enact the behaviors that will help you achieve your goals.
A functioning artistic “practice” is about more than just making the art. By taking a strategic approach to your practice, you will create guidelines for yourself and assess what works.
The Process
The Art Ally process is customized to each client’s needs. We use extensive questionnaires, analysis, one-on-one coaching, and the extensive resources that we have compiled. Throughout the process, our use of the word “work” is intentional. All of these materials then feed into frameworks for each step of the process:
Imagining the work
How do you develop and create your ideas? How do you refine them?
Doing the work
How do you find the time to do the work? What is your network of support for feedback?
Selling the work
Now that you have a body of work, how do you market, promote and sell it?
Managing the work
Being an artist means managing the practice of being an artist. Your art is your business, and you are in charge of managing it.
