H. Gene Thompson is a non-binary artist who uses soft sculpture, print media, interactive sound and performance to question the body, its form. Thompson questions human connectivity through wearable fabric sculptures, holding a space that challenges social interactions. Thompson is motivated by bringing people together socially through the organization of events and performances that empower and highlight unseen narratives, exploring themes of closeness, isolation, confining factors such as gender, social and economic oppression. Thompson has led adult and youth workshops, programs, and open studios in institutions in multiple cities, using media to address social emotional learning by way of teaching multimedia skills, helping to create connections within and across communities.
