Mai Khoi's Bad Activist

Exiled dissident artist Mai Khoi (born Đỗ Nguyễn Mai Khôi) has been called the “Lady Gaga of Vietnam” and compared to Russian activist-band Pussy Riot. She was a pop star in Vietnam, winning Vietnam Television’s 2010 Album of the Year with the song “Vietnam” on her first produced album. At that time she began modest advocacy for women’s and LGBT+ rights in her country, and she began to draw criticism with her vocal choice not to have children, as well as for her expressive outfits and songs.

With “Bad Activist,” she tells her story through an intimate, multimedia performance and what she knows best — song.

After the show, a limited number of VIP tickets will be available. These tickets include premium seating at “Bad Activist” and an invitation from Mai Khoi to a private Afterparty with her friends. Enjoy cocktails and hors d’ ouevres while Mai Khoi jams with her band and takes questions. A live auction featuring an intimate home-cooked dinner at Mai Khoi’s home, Winged House, will be featured. Proceeds benefit the International Free Expression Project.
