Excavating Memory: Writing Workshop with Elizabeth Mosier

Learn how to think like an archaeologist and avoid overlooking important details of your life when writing your true story, with Elizabeth Mosier.

When writing personal narrative, it can be easy to overlook or discount the most telling details from your life because they are familiar or too commonplace to warrant notice.

But for historical archaeologists, everyday objects are material evidence, full of meaning that helps us realign the deeper truth of experience with the stories we tell about who we are and how we live. Drawing from her seven-year experience as a technician at Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park

PARKING INFO

Parking/Transportation

There is ample parking in the area around Creative Nonfiction. Most of the streets surrounding the office are permit areas with one-hour parking from 7 AM until 7 PM, Monday to Saturday. Metered parking, with a 4-hour maximum limit, is always available on Penn Avenue and is enforced Monday through Saturday, 8 AM until 6 PM.

Depending on when you are visiting, here are some helpful tips for finding free parking:

Weekdays

For visits longer than one hour, we recommend parking on Coral Street east of S. Pacific Avenue (near the Aldi) or across Penn Avenue (north) because you do not need to pay a meter or hold a residential permit for these areas.

Evenings

After 4 PM, free parking opens up on Coral Street in front of the Waldorf School, which is directly across the street from the Creative Nonfiction office. The metered parking spaces on Penn Avenue are also free after 6 PM. Street parking is free after 7 PM.

Weekends

Parking also opens up on Coral Street, in front of the Waldorf School, during the weekends. The metered parking spaces on Penn Avenue are free after 6 PM on Saturday and all day on Sunday.

If driving, please be sure to check all signs carefully as parking enforcement may change without notice.

You can also travel to CNF via public transportation or by using ride-share services such as Uber and Lyft. The closest bus stops are located at the intersections of Penn Avenue and Winebiddle Street or Penn Avenue and Evaline Street; there are also nearby bus stops at Friendship Avenue. Learn more here.
