The Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) is soliciting qualifications from individual media artists, game designers, or digital experience teams to produce an immersive experience at Pittsburgh International Airport.
This initiative is part of the Creating a Sense of Place program under the Arts and Culture department; which aims to enhance the experience of the facilities for visitors and staff, by presenting visual art, performing art, and public art of the highest quality. Temporary and diverse programming will attract attention and investment from repeat business and leisure travelers, as well as local visitors and employees.
A selection panel comprised of Art in the Airport Advisory Committee members and a representative from the ACAA IT department will select one individual or team, to produce an immersive digital experience, which will highlight an asset or group of assets from the Pittsburgh region.
As the gateway to the region, the Pittsburgh International Airport Art in the Airport program aims to deliver something unique with this project. The immersive experience is intended to give passengers a sense of the region – such as riding a roller coaster at a local amusement park, experiencing the incline, or similar. This integration will be located within the International Arrivals area at PIT, and will be placed adjacent to a baggage claim area, when passengers dwell.
Once selected by the panel, the individual designer or team will be asked to submit a series of potential experience schemes, and will proceed to work the ACAA Arts and Culture Manager and IT, to refine which experience will be integrated into the space.
