The Foundwork Artist Prize is sponsored by Foundwork (www.foundwork.art), a new artist platform for the contemporary art community.
The Foundwork Artist Prize is an unrestricted $10,000 juried grant to be awarded in October, 2019 to an outstanding US-based artist chosen on Foundwork, a new platform connecting artists and collaborators across the global contemporary art community. The winner will also receive a studio visit with each of the five jurors to cultivate a dialogue around the winner’s practice. In addition, two runners up will each receive free lifetime accounts on Foundwork.
Foundwork is a focused venue where artists can introduce their work to a professional art audience, and where curators, gallerists, and other collaborators can research and engage with practicing artists wherever they’re based. The platform was established by a former Brooklyn gallerist after experiencing the limitations that artists and exhibitors face trying to find and connect with one another. Foundwork currently features over 500 artists based in more than 30 countries, including self-taught artists together with those from academic studio art backgrounds.
The Foundwork Artist Prize reflects the platform’s purpose to enable opportunities for artists regardless of prior network or recognition. Accordingly, the selection process for the prize will exclude exhibition history and focus only on artwork and artist statements published on Foundwork.
To be considered for the Foundwork Artist Prize, an artist must be a US resident and have a profile with at least 5 artworks published on Foundwork throughout the selection period: 5:00 PM ET September 1–5:00 PM ET September 30, 2019.
The jury for the inaugural Foundwork Artist Prize will be composed of Foundwork’s Advisory Board, all leading art professionals serving in a number of critical roles across the field:
DeWitt Godfrey, Artist, Professor, Colgate University, Past President, College Art Association
Becca Hoffman, Director, Outsider Art Fair, Former Director, Andrew Edlin Gallery
