Open Call for Of My Longing & My Lack, an interdisciplinary movement based project emerging from a deeply personal reflection upon matrilineal relationships, specifically within African-American female headed households, cultural trauma, and Afro Futurist possibilities of being these works explore ideas of intergenerational lovelessness, the failure of Black liberation and Western Feminist discourses to acknowledge the precocity of black and brown women, and the collision of the nuanced individual self with the collective identity. I am looking to cast two dancers/movement artists of color, cis, trans, non binary, of all body types and abilities to perform in a short dance film. This work will require the movements to be more spontaneous and responsive than neatly choreographed, so you must feel comfortable performing in an improvisational manner. I am really looking for individuals who feel deeply connected and affected by the text. I am providing a short written excerpt from the text that is the backbone of the piece. If you feel particularly connected to the excerpt please submit a 5 min max. movement based submission that is a response to the piece by midnight June 15th. Submissions can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. You will need to be available from Monday June 17th-Wednesday June 19th between noon-7PM. This is a paid opportunity.
