Artists as Change Agents – A Workshop Series
Developing artists as leaders of community change in complex environments

All applications are due by 6:00 pm on March 4, 2019.

Union Project is pleased to bring the Artists as Change Agents workshop series to Pittsburgh. In this series, local artists will develop their artistic practice as a central methodology for systemic change in their local community. This program is designed and facilitated by EmcArts, a national arts service organization that works alongside individuals, organizations, and communities as they tackle their most complex challenges.

Through its research, EmcArts has identified a core set of five capabilities that are vital to making real, long-lasting change in complex situations, and which are also inherent to many artistic processes. During the series, artists and EmcArts facilitators will explore how the five capabilities can be developed and used in a community context.

There are four whole-day sessions, broken into two weekends. The first sessions are April 26 – 28, and the second sessions are May 31 – June 2. Ten Pittsburgh artists will be chosen to participate in the program through an application process, with applications due on March 4 at 6:00 pm. Each artist who participates in the program will receive a $250 stipend for each day, for a total of $1,000.

Union Project has teamed up with the Office of Public Art to help facilitate and organize the workshop series in partnership with EmcArts.

We are now accepting applications for exhibiting artists.  All applications are due by 6:00 pm on March 4, 2019. For full details, see the application packet.
